Building Surveyors John Collinson and Darren Mugleston recently combined their companies to form a new firm - Surveying Devon & Cornwall.

The charitable project sees Darren Mugleston play a lead role in the development of a new building, which is principally constructed from sustainable materials, a long held aspiration of The Forder Conservation and Community Association.

The vastly experienced duo first met as students and have built their expertise in the South West and the Midlands . John joins the practice following 10 years as Managing Director at Monk & Partners. His substantial experience in the residential and commercial property sector; and undertakes a wide range of building surveying but specialises in undertaking dilapidation, pre-acquisition, alteration and repair advice to a broad range of clients.

Darren Mugleston moved to the South West in 2003 and later set up a building surveying business as a sole practitioner covering Devon and Cornwall . Darren previously was a partner in a Midlands based private practice for which he gave several years service since graduation. Darren’s surveying background is in social housing but also has a wide range of traditional surveying skills.

“I am really pleased to have formed this practice with John who was a fellow student when we graduated at Thames Polytechnic and with whom I have remained good friends ever since. This merger of expertise will increase our capacity to better serve our existing clients and attract new business throughout Devon & Cornwall,” said Darren.

Lifelong Supporter of West Bromwich Albion Darren moved from being close to his beloved baggies to be with Plymouth born Jo whom he married in 2005.

“Both Darren and I share a common sense attitude to surveying and like to provide meaningful advice in clear and unambiguous way. Clearly clients need to know about all of the problems but the issue sometimes overlooked is the need to provide solutions to address these problems. This kind of approach is seen as a key to the success of our new practice,” said John Collinson.

In his spare time John is a motor racing enthusiast and participates in the MG Midget challenge where he regularly races on circuits such as Silverstone and Brands Hatch.

The company has moved to a new office at Regal House in Saltash whilst retaining bases in Fowey and Ivybridge to service clients across the region. The merger also sees Kim Connew join as general administrator.

There are essentially three types of surveys to be considered. The Building Survey (previously known as a structural survey), the Homebuyer Survey, and the Basic Valuation.
